Please forgive me for the job I took. It’s what I needed to keep us in food and clothes. I can tell by the blue of my lips, There must be some kind of hole in the ship. Stop breathing, I’m starting to drown Stop breathing, I’m starting to drown Starting to drown Starting to drown Starting to drown She’s built like a bullet, with the heart of the sun. She’ll take us deeper, ‘til we can’t see anyone. Screw the bends, please just open the door. I feel like I could just swim to the shore. Chorus Don’t disturb the Premier today. He’s worked hard and needs a long holiday. Chorus

Dear you, or whatever you’ve become, I am writing to protest. As a muse, I am flattered, but tired. This job is obsolete; this position of mine- it should have been filled years ago. Someone more willing to fight can take this burden from me, but you’ll have to want to give it away. Dear you, enclosed is a list of things you’re not allowed to bitch about anymore. I know it will be hard to find someone whose name rhymes w/ the words in your songs but you’ll have to try. Someone more willing to stay can have this corner of your mind but first you’ll have to give it away. A hand too warm Sneaking up to see me Whatever style I had A box of your letters Avoidance in the hall The way I drive How everything went so fast My fear of going too fast Ad infinitum, ad nauseum… Dear you, here’s a photo or two – to refresh your memory, to replace that girl in your wallet you still think I am. Someone more willing to lie could do the job just as well, but first you have to give it away, & you don’t give anything away. Dear you, here is your chance; have your final say, but I get the last laugh. Sincerely yours & I resign.

Seamless, falling, to your disgrace. Can see nothing. Lost your place Feel so solo, so all alone. Such a strong fear, leaving you prone And you’re running out of time. ‘Cause you feel you’ve lost your mind. See nothing is complete, you’ll see. And it suits you just as well. I’m not victim. I’m just a clerk. Selling tickets to my hurt. Shake your head now, to my view. Can’t you see I was once like you. Chorus

A car crash into the snow Windshield cracks, in comes the cold Dashboard lights, the seat is wet Winter’s here, come place your bets And what is left, But the corpse of a tree The leaves have all gone home to their graves Now’s the time for your good-byes Check your smiles and learn to cry I’ve seen it once or twice before Down the hall and out the door. The wind it burned When it(I) kissed your face The ice has come to steal your soul. Your soul Your soul Your soul

Crash 04:23
I’d rather crash than to suffer at a loss for words. I’d rather go down & never come back. Around the world for you, the easily amused. Buddy, save a seat for me. I’d rather choke than to have to ride my one-trick-pony out. I’d rather go down than have to wonder where my one hit went to. Around the world for you, the easily amused. Jimmi, save a hit for me. I’d rather crash Than be raped on your billboard somewhere. I’d rather go down than to have to make a comeback tour around the world for you, the easily amused. Punk rock, be the death of me.

Easy Way Out 01:41
It’s a shame to go home & you don’t want to be ashamed anymore. You don’t want to feel like you’ve lost when you never even started. It okay to blame yourself- it’s easier than finding someone else & the easy way out is highly underrated. Go ahead & be afraid- there’s so many things out there that can do you in. Why should you stick your neck out when you might lose your head? You don’t have to be so brave to think that you’re above giving up.

Feeling up tight and closed like a lock rusted crude I came here to see you give in to his cheap shiny ruse She’s falling asleep now On the couch over there When I look in her eyes She’s not dreaming on me I can see you fall down, see the ground meet your face Such a stupid mistake to become such a waste I pocket my delusions Through the good times you know Lovely symbol circle Still a big fucking hole I came here just to find sin on the path that you chose Hell won’t let me come in ‘cause I wore the wrong clothes Please forgive my sad faults Like a broken machine Should I just go away Am I wasting your day?

about

Jane Seymour's castle was not available for lease, so Old Man instead recorded "Cheap Shiny Ruse" in the low-ceilinged basement of a beloved Louisville indie rock pioneer. These were our first recordings with our then-drummer/pastry chef PJ Knight, and they represent the trio coming into its own sound and dynamics. These were also our first recordings with an honest-to-goodness multi-track computer set-up. We couldn't have been happier with the results, which is why it hurt that much more when the master recordings disappeared (always back up those important files, kids!). Fortunately, we were able to salvage these versions for your listening pleasure.
